FATHER'S DAY
Tamed by the Spirit
Picture a wild stallion galloping in the wild. From a distance, he is the image of power but especially freedom. We think, wouldn’t be great to run free like a wild horse. But what is his reality? Daily he lives on a razor's edge of danger. A snapped leg in a prairie dog hole is a death sentence. A harsh winter means starvation. Hungry wolves mean he lives in the constant fear of being hunted down and killed. His powerful muscles are used for one thing only: fleeing from danger or fighting other stallions for dominance over the herd. The sad truth is that a wild stallion is a slave to fear, and a captive of his instincts. His "freedom" is in reality a lonely, violent, and terrifying experience.
Now, picture that same stallion in the hands of a loving and good master. He stands in a clean stall, safe from danger. He is fed the best hay and grain, his coat gleaming with health. His strength is celebrated and honed. His power is no longer for fleeing, but for a purpose. He moves in partnership with his rider, a beautiful union of mutual trust and respect. He is safe, he is valued, and his potential is unleashed for a calling greater than himself. This is the blessing of being tamed and led by a loving and good master.
This is the paradox of discovering that true freedom is found not living in the wilderness, but in surrender. We think freedom is living like a wild stallion (no restraints) when in reality, Jesus is calling us into the safety and purpose of his care. Join us this coming Sunday for a special Father's Day message titled "Tamed By the Spirit'. Join us as we encourage men to lead and serve others by the Spirit.
"Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom." 2 Corinthians 3:17
